A Coach’s Perspective - FALCON VOLLEYBALL '09

Knowing this season would be a rebuilding year for the Falcons with only three returning players, Coach Hayhurst chose the theme of "Relentless Pursuit" for this year's volleyball season. The team verse is I Corinthians 10:31, "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." Sports provide a platform and opportunity for character to be built--the kind of character that throughout life can bring glory to God.
The coaches, parents, and players alike enjoyed the best match of our season so far this past Thursday night against a tough Coleman team. The scores are not the main thing because "it's not all about the scoreboard." However, the players could hardly conceal their joy when we actually led on the scoreboard, albeit for a brief while, against potentially the toughest team on our schedule. Most importantly, we were encouraged by witnessing the team's continued determination, enthusiasm, and ongoing improvement after many hours of grueling, "relentless" practice.
You may come to our next game with high expectations and wonder what we can be so excited about. It is incredibly rewarding for coaches, parents, and players to experience and witness the progress. Players who could not serve during preseason . . . confidently serving underhand; players who just began serving overhand last season . . . score an ace or two; and overall play and positions being executed and enjoyed as a team effort . . . with the rewarding "kill" here and there.
But the growth is not all related to athletics. The team has also grown closer in our "Relentless Pursuit" to know God better. The coaches and players have been doing a Bible study entitled Lord; I Want to Know You, which is a study of the names of God and His character. We all need to pursue Christ, so we can be more like Him on a daily basis. We pray this study has caused us to depend more on our Lord, and that it will have a lasting impact on the girls moving forward.

Haiti Relief Fund - 2/5/2010
I am pleased to report that the Lord used our students to raise $138 towards this effort. Praise the Lord! The funds will be channeled through the American Association of Christian Schools and Crossworld Missions.
