Junior High Sports Season

The following information should help answer good questions that have arisen as we approach the fall sports seasons.

As indicated this past school year, PCS plans to participate with local public schools in their spring junior high volleyball and basketball seasons. The spring junior high sports seasons are open to 6th-8th graders. Therefore, fall volleyball is technically considered the varsity season. Very few of the schools in our conference have junior high teams, so historically, we were not able to provide many junior high games during the fall.
However, because of our enrollment in the high school at PCS, a number of junior high players are needed to round out the varsity teams. While this provides great experience for the young players, they need to be prepared in many facets to handle the varsity level of competition, including practice. In order to make the fall season as effective as it can be for all involved, any players who come out will need to meet a minimum level of playing readiness in order to be on the varsity roster. This “cut,” if needed, would happen following preseason and would not be based on sheer numbers, but  on consideration of what players are ready for the varsity level of play at PCS.
This is the purpose for having the junior high season in the spring. We wanted to communicate this up front to the junior high players so that they do not have too high expectations of the varsity season vs. the junior high spring season. Having said that, we are very excited to include young players and to see them fill big shoes. Our young, dauntless teams will likely surprise us and be exciting to watch this year. The sky is the limit for these young players in the years to come, but we do want to position them for success early on and as they are ready for it.
