The elementary department at Pioneer Christian School is excited to invite you to take part in a wonderful educational opportunity. On Tuesday, April 26 from 12:30–2:30, we will be hosting our annual Elementary Math Fair. This event is open to all first–sixth graders and their parents and is a great opportunity for students to experience math in unique, fun, and interactive ways.

Education students from Northland International University are once again teaming together with us to create events and activities that will enhance your child’s understanding of math in a whole new way.  Our students here at PCS get very excited each year for this afternoon, and we know that this year will be no different!

We invite all elementary parents to come and be a part of this experience with your child. Watch as your child gets excited about math, and gain valuable ideas in math learning which you can implement at home throughout the upcoming summer months. Plan now to join us for this fun and exciting afternoon of math!

We recently announced a new opportunity for our junior high girls to participate in volleyball this spring. Their practices and games will need to take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting after spring break.

Because of this development, a change in the current 4th–6th grade intramural schedule will need to occur. Instead of intramurals taking place on Mondays and Thursdaysthey will now meet on Mondays and Fridays when they resume after Spring Break.

The PCS soccer team had a home game with Copper Country Christian School on Saturday morning. Our guys controlled the play from the opening whistle, maintaining possession of the ball in our offensive half of the field, and generating many shots on goal. We remain shorthanded because of injuries, but all the guys are beginning to step up and contribute to replace that void. Marco Patz continued his strong play with three goals and an assist, and Daniel Calverley scored his first two goals of the season during the second half. Jon Brownfield (2 assists), Josh Cudnohufsky (1 goal, 2 assists), and Antonio Patz (1 goal, 2 assists) also contributed offensively, while Jared Kimbrough, Ryan Robold, and Luke Kaminski played well defensively and helped goalie Austin Glanzer earn the shutout by the score of 8-0.

More than individual stats, accomplishments, or even scoring, a soccer coach is always looking for unified execution at a high level. More than any other game this season, I was very pleased with the way our guys controlled the ball, played their roles well, and spread the ball around the field. Every player contributed, and they trusted one another to each do his part. This game was enjoyable to watch and be a part of. We haven’t had many games this season in which we played this well, but I know we can build on this as we progress toward our final regular season game and the state tournament. We must continue to improve through team practices and personal work.

Thank you to all of those who have supported the guys throughout the season! We look forward to seeing you at our next game, Thursday, October 21st, at home against Niagara.

Our guys entered Friday night’s soccer game against Bay City with a strong desire to reverse the outcome of their last meeting. We had to make a few adjustments in our lineup because of injuries to two of our starting fullbacks. Bay City struck first with a goal on a header off of a free kick just 5 minutes into the game. However, the guys responded well and began to take control of possession. Later in the first half, we were awarded a free kick near midfield. Jared Kimbrough’s long cross met the head of Jon Brownfield, and he evened the score with a well-placed shot. With about 20 minutes until halftime, a fierce rainstorm rolled in, and the play on the field began to suffer.

As the ball became more difficult to control, Bay City began to get more chances and capitalized on a semi-breakaway just before the first half ended. We played well to start the second half and again maintained some good possession, but we struggled to break through the back line of Bay City. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, Bay City scored again on a free kick.

With the 3-1 loss, our record drops to 7-4. Our next game will be Tuesday, October 5th, at 4:30 p.m. vs. Bay City. The game will be held at our home field.
